Audi Enhances A3 Cabriolet's Range with 1.2-liter Turbo TFSI

The smallest capacity petrol engine in Audi's range has made its way under the hood of the European-market A3 soft-top convertible. Featuring turbocharging and direct injection technology, the 1.2 TFSI produces the same 105HP output as the 1.6-litre naturally aspirated unit it replaces, along with 175Nm of peak torque - a 27Nm increase over its predecessor.

Linked to six-speed manual transmission, the A3 Cabriolet 1.2 TFSI can reach 100km/h (62mph) from rest in 12.2 seconds, and continue on to a maximum speed of 190km/h (118mph). In comparison, the outgoing A3 Cabriolet 1.6 MPI reaches 100km/h in 12.5 sec and tops out at 183 km/h (114mph).

Despite these improvements, the 1.2 TFSI also helps boost fuel economy by 9.2mpg UK (7.6mpg US) to 49.6mpg UK (equal to 41.3mpg US and 5.7lt/100km), and reduce CO2 output by 35g/km to 132g/km.

The new A3 Cabriolet 1.2 TFSI, which opens for order this week in the UK, is priced from £19,985 OTR and is offered in standard, Sport or S line trim.
